The recent development of three industry bodies in India's online gaming sector filing applications to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to form self-regulatory bodies (SRBs) that will govern the industry. EPWA became the third body to apply for an SRB. MeitY initially planned three SRBs but will take at least three months to form one due to structural changes. The online gaming industry wants an SRB formed as soon as possible so the sector can grow. The SRBs will regulate games and approve those that satisfy new gaming rules amendments.
