Increased GST rates and what it signifies

EPWA opposing a proposed 28% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on online gaming in India that is scheduled to be discussed at an upcoming GST Council meeting. EPWA believes gamers should not be taxed in the same way as gamblers. They have warned the high tax could discourage many players from continuing gaming activities and harm the growing online gaming industry. EPWA cited data showing the industry is growing 30% annually and accounted for 19.2% of global game downloads in 2022. However, the survey found 61% of gamers may stop playing if the tax is increased.
