Mithun Mahesh

How did you venture into the online gaming space? Which online games do you play regularly? What gaming platforms do you primarily use? (PC, console, mobile) How many hours do you typically spend gaming each week?
I’ve been a poker enthusiast for years, but it was seeing Aditya Agarwal, my former coach, become Pokerstars’ global ambassador that inspired me to pursue poker professionally. I now play online No-Limit Hold’em (NLH) tournaments full-time, primarily on trusted poker platforms. I spend 4-5 days a week playing for 6-8 hours daily, dedicating the rest of my time to studying the game, coaching, and maintaining a structured routine around it.
For how many years have you been playing online games?
I’ve been playing poker professionally for seven years.
What are your educational qualifications?
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
What skills do you think are required to play online games?
To succeed in online poker tournaments, you need a strong understanding of probabilities, arithmetic, and game theory. The ability to quantify risk, grasp behavioral psychology, and maintain a competitive mindset is also crucial. Quick decision-making under pressure and limited time is another essential skill.
Does playing online game form part of your daily life? is it a part of your livelihood?
Yes, poker is both my passion and my livelihood. I play 4-5 days a week for 6-8 hours daily, with the remaining time spent studying the game, coaching, and maintaining a structured routine.
What are your preferred kind of online games? What factors do you consider before putting money into any online game?
I exclusively play NLH poker tournaments on trusted platforms. Before investing, I check for credibility, necessary certifications, user interface quality, and a solid tournament schedule.
What skills are required to succeed in an online gaming tournament?
Success in online gaming tournaments requires the ability to translate study and preparation into quality decisions during gameplay. Handling the emotional and financial swings of the game, resilience, and accessing a flow state are also key.
Have you ever experienced financial fraud or scams related to online gaming? What measures do you think should be implemented to prevent financial exploitation in online gaming?
Fortunately, I haven’t experienced any scams. To prevent financial exploitation, I recommend players look for necessary certifications and operators to maintain transparency and accountability.
Community Engagement: Do you actively participate in gaming communities or forums? How important do you think community engagement is for the online gaming community?
Gaming communities are vital for addressing issues like cheating and fraud. While not all issues get resolved, these communities hold operators accountable and provide a platform for discussing important topics.
What do you think about addiction and dependency on online gaming?
Addiction can affect individuals with addictive personalities, regardless of the activity. I treat poker as a job, taking regular breaks and avoiding play when I’m not at my best. Operators should educate recreational players about financial risks and intervene when players display ill-discipline to create a safe environment.
Are you aware of the existing laws and regulations related to online gaming in your country? Do you think there should be more regulations to protect gamers' rights and safety online?
Yes, I believe more regulations are needed to protect gamers’ rights and ensure operators maintain the integrity of the game. Current structures often prioritize profitability over fairness, which compromises the skill level of the game.
If there is one thing about the online gaming industry you can convey to the government, what would it be?
Poker should be recognized as a game of skill, not chance. While luck is a factor, it exists in many aspects of life, including sports like cricket. Poker can be quantified, analyzed, and improved using tools like solvers, similar to chess engines. I urge the government to preserve the integrity of this game and regulate operators to ensure fairness and transparency.
